Interior Design Trends Shaping Tomorrow’s Workspaces

At Meridian Interiors, staying ahead of design trends is key to delivering innovative, inspiring environments for our clients. Recently, our Project Designer shared her insights and predictions with the team following her visit to the Workspace Design Show in London, alongside research into emerging industry directions. The presentation highlighted a number of exciting trends with the potential to influence the interior design landscape.

One of the most noticeable shifts is in materiality. Terrazzo is making a strong comeback, evolving from its 1970’s roots, featuring as wall, floor and desk coverings, offering a bold yet refined aesthetic. Alongside this, textured and uniquely shaped tiles are becoming increasingly popular, adding depth and individuality to spaces.

Ceilings are also being reimagined. Moving away from traditional ceiling tiles towards more creative solutions, designers are incorporating vibrant colours, sculptural acoustic panels, and flowing wave-like forms to transform ceilings into standout design features rather than afterthoughts.

Colour palettes are becoming more adventurous too. There has been a clear rise in the use of bright, contrasting colours, reflecting a desire to energise workspaces and create memorable environments. This shift aligns with a broader move towards workplaces that inspire creativity and collaboration, rather than simply functioning as neutral backdrops.

Biophilic design remains present, but our designer noted that its rapid growth is beginning to plateau. This may be due to the fact that many organisations have already embraced core biophilic principles, such as planting, natural materials, and access to light, making it less of a “trend” and more of an established expectation. As a result, designers are now looking beyond biophilia to new ways of enhancing wellbeing.

One such direction is multi-sensory design; an emerging trend focused on creating environments that engage more than just the visual sense. This approach is closely linked to designing for neurodiversity, with spaces tailored to support different sensory needs through acoustics, lighting, texture, and spatial layout. It reflects a growing awareness of inclusivity and employee wellbeing in workplace design.

Finally, eco-futurism is gaining momentum. This trend blends sustainability with forward-thinking aesthetics, combining environmentally responsible materials with bold, innovative design concepts that look to the future.
